The Cleaners' Charter
The Cleaners' Charter is about respect.
This Charter, developed by cleaners campaigning to win a fair deal, has been agreed to by responsible Clean Start contractors around Australia. It is a part of the Clean Start Collective Agreement and recognises the crucial role that cleaners play in the Australian Contract Cleaning Industry.

Good faith in the workplace
Cleaners engaged by Clean Start contractors will cooperate with each other to perform the terms of their employment, as agreed in the Clean Start Collective Agreement, in good faith.

Respect at work
Cleaners will be treated with dignity at work by being shown respect, being recognised and valued for the work they perform, and by being protected from bullying and harassment.

Freedom from discrimination
Cleaners will enjoy a workplace free of any form of discrimination.
A safe and healthy workplace
Clean Start contractors will provide a safe and healthy working environment for cleaners and cleaners will cooperate with Clean Start contractors to improve workplace safety wherever possible.

Workplace diversity
Clean Start contractors acknowledge and value the diversity of its employees and commit to ensuring language and cultural differences in the workplace are respected.

Equal Employment Opportunity
The parties recognise that equal employment opportunity and freedom from harassment is a fundamental right for all employees. In accordance with this principle Clean Start contractors undertake to develop and periodically review an applicable equal opportunity and harassment policy (which includes sexual harassment) and grievance procedures that will apply to all employees.
Workplace consultation
Cleaners will be consulted on decisions which will have signifi cant implications for themselves or their workplace.

Union membership and representation
Cleaners will be able to join their trade union to advance their occupational, social and economic interests, and be represented by their union in the workplace.

Fair treatment
Cleaners will not be dismissed from their employment unless there is a valid reason related to their work performance or conduct.

Resolving disputes
Cleaners will have the opportunity to participate in resolving disputes within their workplace, and may seek representation from their Union in their support.
